Wednesday's Words

The word for this week is redemption. The biblical definition is--to purchase back something that had been lost, by the payment of a ransom. The Greek word so rendered is apolutrosis , a word occurring nine times in Scripture, and always with the idea of a ransom or price paid. What makes redemption so uniquely special is that the debt against us is not viewed as simply cancelled, but is fully paid. Christ's blood or life, which he surrendered for them, is the "ransom" by which the deliverance of his people from the servitude of sin and from its penal consequences is secured. It is the plain doctrine of Scripture that "Christ saves us neither by the mere exercise of power, nor by his doctri

Wednesday's Words

This week's word is centered on worship. It's a word that is often misunderstood and subsequently misdirected by how we are feeling instead of who we are following. Human beings worship every day because God has created each of us with a desire to worship. Some engage in good worship of a bad god and others settle for bad worship of a good God. As a result, people hop in and out of marriage and hop in and out of church. Bouncing from one 'feel good' ci

Wednesday's Words

Our word for this week is centered on misunderstanding. The following series of advertisements reportedly appeared in a daily newspaper: Monday: "The Rev. A.J. Jones has one color TV set for sale. Telephone 626-1313 after 7 p.m. and ask for Mrs. Donneley who lives with him, cheap." Tuesday: "We regret any embarrassment caused to Rev. Jones by a typographical error in yesterday's paper. The ad should have read: 'The Rev. A.J. Jones has one color TV set for sale, cheap...Telephone 626-1313 and ask for Mrs. Donneley, who lives with him after 7 p.m.'" Wednesday: "The Rev. A.J. Jones informs us that he has received several annoying telephone calls because of an incorrect ad in yesterday's paper.
