First Things @ First

As we continue to pray toward a revival of first love passion, I pray that God designs might become all we desire to do in our daily journey of faith. As God continues to adjust our thinking through a deeper awareness of His perfect purpose for our life, the one thing we must not forget is the absolute necessity of daily surrender to God. That principle practice was reinforced for me last week when in reading from several sources of information God directed me to one of the older and yet still proven. The name of the source is Oswald Chambers. Many of you I'm sure have some of his devotional work. It was in reading the words that follow that God provided a timely reminder that, if followed

I read something on Sunday morning that shed new light on the important subject of 'justification'. The author being O.S. Hawkins who in using Romans 3:24-26 in his devotional 'The Believer's Code', --"We are justified freely by (God's) grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus...that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Him" says in response. "Only the work of Jesus on the cross makes us able to stand before a Holy God. In an act of indescribable grace, God credited to our account the righteousness of Christ." Listen closely to what follows--" a human court of law may acquit or pardon, but only a righteous God can--and will--take someone guilty like me,

Even though misty and grey this morning, this is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! Psalm 118:24 I trust your heart will be encouraged as you and I walk alongside the One who has walked the path ahead of us. Thank God He has not left us alone on the journey! In reading a few weeks ago I was reminded of one of the great keys to experiencing the fullness of our faith. The key was/is humility. Warren Wiersbe has commented concerning humility that this character quality can be an elusive thing. Wiersbe has said, "just when you realize you have 'it', (humility) you've l

In reading this morning from the word of God and from other sources that shed some light on the word of God I was reminded of God's ownership of my life. In biblical terms, "I have been bought with a price..." 1 Corinthians 6:20a Before going into ministry, farming and ranching was my life. And part of that included putting your mark of ownership on those livestock that were under your care. In the spring of the year we would 'work cattle'. And that meant heating up the old 'River K' branding iron and putting our mark on those animals that were in our possession. The smell of hair and hide being branded is something you never quite forget. Wherever that 'beast' went, it carried our mark w

On this last Monday morning of the month of January, I pass along something that helped me in my journey. God used what follows as a reminder for me personally of how a person should approach every day they're given by God. The words that follow are borrowed from a pastor in Albemarle, NC. His name is Stoney Benfield and he ministers at Prospect Baptist Church. His topic is 'a lifestyle of love for God'. Stoney uses Psalm 63:3-5 as his springboard which says--"Because your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus, I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise Y

"Lost and Found"--maybe you've seen the sign that points the way for a person to recover what once was in their possession. Most usually it is something prized or prioritized. You and I would not be searching were it not. Most find themselves at this place because of a lapse in judgment or inattention or maybe irresponsibility. Depending on its worth to us personally will determine how vigorously we seek to find it. Matthew 6:33 says, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you." The purpose of God is woven into the kingdom of God. His plans become our priority because His Spirit indwells. The presence of God in the life of a believer en
