Pastoral Perspectives, I came across a great question that helped put life into perspective, hopefully for more than a few hours. The question--"If you listed everything that upset you during the past week, what would be the common denominator in the majority of circumstances?" Have you ever thought about that? More importantly have you taken the time to do a little personal inventory? I think if we would, most likely the source would not be structural or mechanical but personal. Most likely it would be people centered. And most of the time, we are 'the people' in the center. As someone observed, the world would be a great place to be if it wasn't for the people. While many may have th

Pastoral Perspectives; I was reminded the other day of the absolute surrender of those three Hebrew teenagers that were tested in their faith while in the foreign country of Babylon. Their names are familiar to Bible students; Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. Their faith, most likely not so much. These three young men demonstrated a great depth of spiritual maturity when they were confronted directly with the choice of conforming to the will of a very worldly king named Nebuchadnezzar or choosing to remain faithful to the word of God. All of those who had been promoted to leadership were instructed to gather in the plain of Dura and at the sound of the trumpet, fall before the gargantuan

Pastoral Perspectives; While Becky and I were walking the other morning, I was reminded of something that in some ways is taken for granted and in others, let's just say, not so much. It's the subject of property lines. They are the visible boundaries that say to all who come near; this is where my ownership begins. Property lines may be marked by a tree, a fence, a rock or simple stake. It is the owner's way of establishing their 'turf', so to speak. Property lines are not bad, but they can bring out the worst at times between adjoining neighbors. I remember a circumstance that occurred many years ago between two men that were old enough to know better and let things get entirely out

Pastoral Perspectives, It is no secret that we have had an extra-ordinary wet spring. The ground is completely saturated, and the streams are overflowing. For some, it may be hard to remember not that long ago when it was so dry and hot. For others, almost impossible to forget. It seems one extreme follows another in so many life applications and the weather is no different. What isn't covered with silt or mud is beautiful and green. Should the Lord provides a break in the rain, (which doesn't look likely at this point) it should be a good harvest for many associated with agriculture. I pray each is rewarded according to His abundant grace and their labor. Speaking of water, I was remind
