Monday's Ministry Morsel
In a culture being overrun with radical thought and erratic behavior--this little morsel might seem a bit radical, as well. We touched briefly on contentment yesterday and how it differs from achievement. That is important because many are driven by achievement in this world today and are manipulated by the system of Satan that encourages 'more' of the material instead of being satisfied with what God provides. You have heard me say at least once by now that while the Word of God says that 'the love of money' is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10) it is in reality the love of 'more' than imprisons many in debt and overwhelms many more with discouragement.
And in the midst of all that mayhem and misery, God whispers this truthful reminder into our spirit on this Monday morning as many go about the routine they, themselves often describe as 'a rat race'.
Here it is--"Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure with trouble." Proverbs 15:16 Did you hear it or is that a bit too radical?
What sort of 'trouble' have you bought into, brought along or even borrowed for the journey that is the direct outflow of the love of 'more' being on display in your life?
Would you at least pause and consider that ?
Do we not often forfeit what's best for what others consider to be good or acceptable?
God speaks on many occasions in the book of Proverbs on what is BETTER for you and me.
"Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a fatted calf with hatred." Proverbs 15:17
"Better is a little with righteousness, than vast revenues without justice." Proverbs 16:8
"Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife." Proverbs 17:1
David Jeremiah has commented, 'that fat calves, vast revenues and a house full of feasting are not wrong, they're just inferior.'
We are NOT rats and we are NOT in a race with each other!
We are the redeemed of God having been brought near by the blood of Jesus Christ!
Therefore, pursue righteousness and God will provide peace and contentment to better enjoy the journey..
Truth be told, if that is not enough for you then He is not enough for you.
Again I ask, is that too radical for you? Too big of a stretch for your faith?
You see, living 'better' requires a spiritual reset; a break from the former way of life that in the words of Sinatra and Elvis-- 'does it my way'.
So, If you are 'locked up' this morning, press the power button and reboot His way of thinking.
It will be better for you and it will be better for others!
God says, 'better is the poor who walks in integrity than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich."
Are you being ruined by riches?
Compromising the integrity of God's word in order to hold onto something that won't hold you?
"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." 1 Timothy 6:10
Realize today that the love of 'more' is a self inflicted wound that if not promptly addressed and properly cleaned will, with time spread all sorts of infection throughout your soul.
In your pursuit of the prize this week, make sure the prize is worth pursuing!
Will it endure or fade away? Will it bless others or further burden them?
Don't settle for chasing rats or riches when you can strive for pursuing the upward call of God in Christ Jesus! God says that's better, even best!
You can't win if you don't finish, so strive to finish well and enjoy the journey!
It's just better.
May the Lord bless your journey this week!
