A Word for the Week
''Walking with the Lord'; it's a term in church circles that many are familiar with. I wonder how many hear it or use it and really understand what it means?
To walk with someone means that both are going the same direction.
To walk with someone means that both are moving at the same pace.
To walk with someone means that both are engaged in the process.
Walking with the Lord is the result of the inflow of God's love for you and the outflow of your love for God. Human beings don't often walk with someone long they don't know, don't like or don't love being in the company of. Walking with the Lord involves intimacy and out of the depth of that relationship flows love for others.
The greatest opportunity in this world and the most important assignment in the word of God of our Lord and Savior is found in Matthew 22:37-40--"Jesus said, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." What an opportunity we are given to love God with all our hearts! What greater, more fulfilling assignment could we have than to share that love with others?
We have been focusing a lot on sharing the love of God with others in our community. The great commission of Matthew 28 will not be carried out without first loving God with all our hearts. We simply will not love others the way God does until we are willing to walk with Him daily.
Witnessing is not a plan or a program, it's a passion that is the outflow of His presence. Witnessing is the consequence of an intimate walk with God. When you and I are experiencing the blessing of His presence daily--we simply want others to experience it as well. The inflow of His love daily during the walk results in the outflow of your love for Him and others are blessed by the overflow. Unless I am engaged in loving God with all my heart; no plan or program and no amount of training will be sufficient. The bottom line for effective evangelism is 'love of God & love for others'.
What is the 'cup' of your heart filled with that is currently spilling onto others? Your witness for the Lord is determined by your walk with the Lord. It is impossible to walk with God and not bear witness daily of what you experience along the way.
So, are you walking with God this week?
Are you going the same direction He is going?
Are you moving at the same pace He is moving?
Are you engaged in the process along the journey?
The evidence will be seen in your witness--while you work and as you walk with God, daily! What has He shared with you today through the inflow that needs to be shared with others in the outflow so they are blessed by the overflow?
God's best during your walk this week,
1 Corinthians 15:58
