A Word for the Week

While Thanksgiving week is here, the end of 2017 will soon be, as well. By the end of the week, thoughts of thanksgiving will give way to giving of another kind. It is the season of sending and spending. Cards are sent and cash is spent! (It might be more accurate to say that cards are sent and credit card balances soar!)

Beginning Friday, many will enter the madness of getting up early to save $50 while spending $100 dollars on food and fuel to experience 'the thrill' of it all to show love for friends and family. It's what Americans do in December. It's what many take great delight in!

Permit me to offer you another opportunity or even an alternative. It is something that you and I can do and take great delight in, as well. It will truly show love for those who need a friend named Jesus and those who desire to be a part of the family of God. And this activity doesn't have to end with the end of the year! December can be the beginning of a new way of living the rest of days, weeks, months and years on earth!

The week of prayer for Lottie Moon will be December 3-9 and our offering emphasis will begin the week of the 10th. I hope you will include a grace gift for the gospel of $100 per family on your Christmas giving list this year. It will be the best investment you make this Christmas!

If 100 families each gave $100 dollars to foreign missions in December, then the church at First, HInton would send $10,000 to further the gospel across our world.

If 75 families would each generously give $150 dollars to foreign missions in December, the church at First, Hinton would invest $11,250 in kingdom work that would pay dividends for all eternity!

If 50 families would each sacrificially give $250 dollars to foreign missions in December, the church at First, Hinton would invest $12,500 in the continuing work of God thru exalting the name of Jesus in this world.

If 25 families would each supernaturally give $1,000 dollars to foreign missions in December, the church at First, Hinton would honor God with $25,000 that would carry the gospel to the lost in 2018.

Now many of us may not be able financially to give $1,000 to foreign missions, but most all of us can give $100.

This Christmas, let's be a part of something larger than ourselves and even our friends and family! This December we have the opportunity to be involved in something that endures eternally, exceedingly far longer than our life on earth?

Just how thankful are we for the gift that cannot be bought? Are we willing to show it OR just settle for saying it? How grateful are we for the gift that saves, secures and satisfies the soul forever? This level of giving must always be considered more than we think we can afford if we hope to realize more than we ever imagined in 2018!

God's word says in Luke 6:38, "Give and it will be given to you, good measure pressed down, shaken together and running over." So learn to give and you will see it come back to you. When you give, give to the Lord and He will provide you more to be thankful for!

In the life of a follower of Christ, everything begins with faith and nothing is realized without obedience. They are two sides of the same coin!

In God's economy, the question is not how much will you give this year BUT how much will you keep? What you release to God to invest eternally brings a reward that never perishes. What you and I decide to keep for ourselves will be used up and burned through on this earth.

What will the purchasing power of God's provision in your life presently purchase? Will it endure long after you finish OR will it fade away after 'the finish' and the funeral?

"For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you and ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and long-suffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in all light." Colossians 1:9-12

Give thanks this year and next with a grate-full heart!

Happy Thanksgiving!
