The word for this week is "RIGHTEOUSNESS".
It is the word 'dikaiosune' in the N.T. It is the character or quality of being right or just. Now those who know the Lord realize that we cannot be made righteous by our own effort, no matter how much effort is put forth. A sinner can only be made righteous before God through the righteousness of Christ. Therefore, by the covering of the blood of Jesus we are made right, just and holy before God.
Righteousness from God's perspective speaks of His faithfulness and His truthfulness to His promises made to those He made and desires to save. No one is excluded from that desire. However, many will exclude themselves from His design through their willful rejection of His person and provision.
Genesis 15:6 says, "And he (Abraham) believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness." Abraham was made righteous before God through His faith in what God said. The same is true for anyone who believes today.
I read the other day that when God looks at a redeemed sinner, He sees Christ first. Therefore God never sees our sin because the sin of a redeemed sinner has been covered in the blood of Jesus. That truth may be best illustrated in the use of the word, righteousness as it is used in the Chinese language. In Chinese the word is made up of two characters, the figure of a lamb and a person. The lamb is on top, covering the person.
Therefore, when God sees you and me, having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, He sees the righteous Lamb of God that takes away the sin of a believing sinner.
My righteousness apart from Christ is compared to filthy rags. (Isaiah 64:6) But being clothed in His righteousness makes me holy and acceptable in the sight of God.
Therefore, my life is hidden in Him and when I'm hidden, Christ is all that is seen.
That carries the potential of making an eternal difference in others around me that God desires to save!
May the Lord bless and keep you this week as you walk in His righteousness!
