First Things @ First
On this last Monday morning of the month of January, I pass along something that helped me in my journey. God used what follows as a reminder for me personally of how a person should approach every day they're given by God.
The words that follow are borrowed from a pastor in Albemarle, NC. His name is Stoney Benfield and he ministers at Prospect Baptist Church.
His topic is 'a lifestyle of love for God'.
Stoney uses Psalm 63:3-5 as his springboard which says--"Because your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus, I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips."
Stoney then writes the following--
"The psalmist began this passage stating that his relationship with God was the result of the loving-kindness of God. Once a person is birthed into God's family, there is a lifestyle that follows. Today, we have made Christianity about an event we attend instead of a lifestyle that we embrace.
There are two expressions of this lifestyle of love for God that I want you to notice from these verses:
First, Christians should express praise to the Almighty God for the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the full expression to humanity of God's loving-kindness. Praise is the result of knowing Jesus Christ. The Bible says that praise should be in my speech and actions on a daily basis. Praise is the life-style of Jesus Christ being lived out by a believer.
Second, Christians should express satisfaction to God. When Jesus Christ becomes your life, there will be satisfaction of the soul. The soul refers to your mind, will and emotions. Does Jesus satisfy your mind, will and emotions? The key to satisfaction is realizing that Jesus Christ will fulfill all the longings of your soul as you fellowship with Him through reading His Word and praying daily."
Now there's a reset moment for each of us every morning!
I pray His will in your life this week!
