First Things @First

Friends. They're so very important in our life. It is as important to know and have friends in high places. In saying that I'm not referring to people who happen to hold positions in government or other organizations in this world. I speak of the friend that scripture describes as sticking closer than a brother.

Jesus is the Friend that we may consult with about anything at any time during the day. In fact, John wrote these words about our friend Jesus in 1 John 5:14--"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us." That's 24/7 with anything, little or large. Jesus can handle it and help us overcome it!

However, we must always remember that it is His power and not ours that makes the difference in the outcome. We approach Him with humble hearts knowing He cares. In this relationship we request His perfect will be accomplished realizing that His purpose for us is always best.

So long as we fail to ask our Friend for help, we will find ourselves struggling the more.

It's been noted in the past by several who most likely struggled in their conversation of prayer with our Friend Jesus that so often the focus of prayer is on changing things. The focus being more on asking God to change the situation or the circumstance instead of asking God to change the way I look at or how I deal with it.

As you and I pray for God to help us see the circumstance through His eyes, He provides the wisdom and strength necessary to overcome. Even in those occasions that seem overwhelming, our Friend will intervene and protect because that is what friends do in times of difficulty and crisis.

The Bible says that those who have friends must show themselves to be friendly. Proverbs 18:24

That is much easier and more likely when you have a Friend like Jesus that you can confide in and be encouraged by!

May the Lord bless your journey this week!
