First Things @First
There was a question asked recently in one of our small groups about knowing God's will and more importantly how does one discover it in order to do it?
God has gifted each of us uniquely so that we might fulfill the various functions of His body, the church. 1 Corinthians 12:18 reminds us that God places the members, those who are born again in the body as He pleases. As we find our purpose, then we are better able to find our place and begin to serve the Lord in His body, the church. In that we are blessed and become a blessing to others! Romans 8:28 declares that "God works all things together for our good if we love God and are being fit into His purpose."
That said, what is God's purpose for you or for me? While our spiritual gifts will not be identical to others, we are all fitted by grace into His plan of saving the world. That remains God's purpose for all people and the members of His body function as one in seeing His purpose fulfilled. 2 Peter 3:9 reminds us that "God is long-suffering and not willing that any perish but that all come to repentance." Because God's purpose is to save the world, then as a result of my being in Christ, my personal goal and pursuit should be the same.
God has chosen us as His representatives to live the life He provides through Christ being filled with the Holy Spirit in order that those in the world might see Christ at work in us and desire the same!
Maybe you've asked, where do I begin in discovering God's purpose in my life so that I may engage His plan of saving the world? Start with what you love to do. Search your heart to examine those God given blessings that motivate you to do something worthwhile. Allow God to filter those desires through His Word under the direction of His Spirit so that what He has given you to use for His glory is in fact used for His glory and not your own. Simply look for ways to begin things or join things that you truly enjoy doing and do them for Jesus. If you're willing to let God shape you, He will over time provide more opportunities that are uniquely yours to use for His purpose of seeing others around you saved for eternity.
We are 98 days into our evangelism emphasis of Mission 365. That said, have you reached your one for Jesus? If not, are you praying daily for those God has placed upon your heart? Are you looking for opportunities to share a word of the hope that lies within you?
You and I have 267 days to go in this calendar year to find and fulfill His purpose. And that's providing He doesn't come tomorrow to receive unto Himself those He has redeemed by His own blood.
We are living in exciting days! And yet there is an urgency to serve God, as well!
Make the most of each hour and each day!
Lift up your head because our redemption draws near.
May the Lord bless your service of seeing others saved for His glory!
