First Things @First

Glory to God for His continuing grace and goodness toward us! Hope you were able to join with the fellowship of saints yesterday in worship of a risen Lord! Praise the Lord for His continuing work of salvation in the hearts of those willing to receive Jesus as Savior. Pray for Dayona Byrd as she begins her faith journey with Jesus!! Baptism is scheduled for May 5th! Celebrate life in Jesus this week.

In matters of salvation those who are actively involved in church have heard often of the need to 'be ready'. Being ready saves you and me the embarrassment of being late or worse unprepared. But this term has more than one application. While it is paramount that you and I be ready spiritually to meet the Lord when the breath of life departs our body or Jesus returns for His saints, it is just as important that we be ready to share our story of the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

The Apostle Peter wanted those who follow Christ to be ready to instruct/encourage others to follow Jesus, as well. Peter writes in the epistle so named after him--"Even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. But sanctify the Lord in your hearts, and (here it is) always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear." 1 Peter 3:14-15

Brian Branam, Liberty Baptist Church in Dalton GA adds this--"God does great things but He does not always do them during good times. God often uses difficult situations to proclaim His salvation. If we are doing right and things go wrong, we often think God is being unfair. Yet the Bible teaches that when things are broken, they are often blessed therefore difficulty is an opportunity."

When the circumstances of life are hard to deal with, many want to retreat. However, it is often in the trial that our testimony of faith is most effective. Therefore, resolve today in the strength of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to be ready to share with others that Jesus is not restricted to things going well in order to do His finest work! Jesus is the Master of turning would be obstacles into worthwhile opportunities.

Allow Jesus to so fill you with His Spirit this week that regardless of what happens around you, His light shines through you. Others will see the help He is faithful to provide and be encouraged!

May God help each of us to respond to those we meet this week with the assurance we have in Jesus Christ!

Blessings,

Pstr K
