Ministry Perspective

It is often amazing to me how the simplest illustrations can teach the most important truths.

Case in point has to do with purpose. I spoke of it briefly a few days ago. Having a purpose is central to everything that God created, and men have constructed since time began. Purpose is what gets a fella up in the morning and gets them going for the day. Purpose is a reason to live each day.The purpose of a pen is to write. The purpose of a book is reading. The purpose of a nail is to secure. The purpose of the sun is to give light. The purpose of the moon is to mark the seasons. Psalm 104:19 Preacher Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 3:1, "To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven."

If you have ever wondered what your purpose is under heaven, the answer to that question is revealed in the Word of God. Matthew 22:36-39 reveals the purpose for you and me being present on this earth. It is simple and straight to the point. "You shall love the Lord your God with ALL your heart and with ALL your soul and with ALL your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." To love God with ALL of me means that I must first give God ALL of me daily in surrendering my will to His. Out of that surrender will flow these attitudes and actions. I love who He loves, feel what He feels, and I think what He thinks each day. It is simply impossible to do that without first being emptied of me and filled with His Spirit. The flesh, which is natural in all of us and impossible to redeem will oppose you and me at every step in these life-changing decisions. However, we are well able in Christ to overcome the flesh because greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4

Giving God parts of us or withholding portions of our love for Him periodically causes our purpose to be unfulfilled. By the way, love, as God defines it in His word is a verb, not a noun. The love of God is not the love of God unless it is demonstrated from esteem and reverence. Romans 5:8 That is how Jesus loved and that is how Jesus' people love, as well. If we are to fulfill and finish His purpose during our season of time on this earth, we must demonstrate His love daily. Declaring it is simply insufficient for His divine purpose!

If a pen does not write--what do you do with it? I know what I would do with it, but you must decide. If a nail remains in the box, it cannot fulfill its purpose of securing what it is literally driven into. If the sun refuses to shine, life ceases! If the child of God does not love God, then how can they love others? By way of clarifying, you and I do not love God by loving people. People are the priority with that approach instead of God. However, it is through demonstrating His love for others that our love for God is seen as the priority, for He is our Priority. That is desperately needed in our community today.

So, the challenge in seeing those in our circle of influence change for the glory of God begins with a change of heart, soul, and mind. Yours and mine. We love God with ALL and He provides ALL we need to fulfill His purpose under heaven in the season of life we are assigned.

Consider this, are you 'ALL IN' for God? You cannot go on to second until you have firmly been established on first! If so, you will be blessed as He directs your life for His glory.

If not, I trust you will be soon because He needs a pen that writes, not one that only lays in the darkness of a desk drawer.

People; On Purpose! It isn't just a motto for ministry. It is our demonstration of His kind of love to others that flows out of devotion for the One we love most!

God has assigned each of us people in this world who are of this world to come out of this world and join Jesus in a journey of faith reliance and refreshment. May our priority always be and remain His purpose!
